Born in 1987, Gizem Aksu is an independent choreographer, dancer and academic based in Istanbul. She graduated from the department of Political Science & International Relations at Boğaziçi University and the department of Contemporary Dance at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University with honorary degrees. She continues the Proficiency in Art programme and works as an academic. She holds workshops under the titles “How the Landscape My Body is?”, “Daily Rituals for Rebellion”, “Organic Wisdom” and bodily awareness workshops for LGBTQI+ people. In addition to her artistic work, she is an art critic and her writings and articles are published in Mimesis magazine. As a dancer and choreographer, she has participated in several festivals, residency programmes, biennials and quadrennials in Belgium, Crotia, Czech Republic, India, Spain, Portugal and Turkey. Most recently, she is working on her new project Political Imaginaries while performing her last solo work YU. She is touring with #Jesuis around the world with Aakash Odedra Company (UK) and performs Hallo! by Aydın Teker in Europe.
